PADI BASIC OPEN WATER COURSE
The PADI Basic Open Water course is designed for those who have always wanted to get scuba certified, and experience an entirely new world! This course consists of three sections: an online knowledge development section; a confined water, skills practice section; and the open water checkout dives. Completion of this course will allow you to rent diving equipment, go diving with a buddy, sign up for boat and resort dives, and gives you the ability to explore the underwater world- worldwide!
COURSE SCHEDULE
This certification includes online course work and in-person components. Classroom coursework is fully online and can be completed from home.
In-person components:
Orientation (fittings and shop tour)
Pool sessions (choose one)
1-day, 8am-5pm on a Sunday or
2 Weeknights, 7:00pm-11pm
Open Water Dive
One weekend at the Hood Canal or Des Moines, WA Dive Sites
COST
Full Course: $590. This includes PADI Elearning course, confined water, and checkout dives.
Referral Course: $450. This includes PADI Elearning, confined water session and you fulfill your checkout dives in another location, typically warm water.
REQUIREMENTS
Must be 12 years or older
Must be comfortable in water
Must be able to continuously swim 200 yards
Must be able to tread water for 10 minutes
Must fill out a medical and liability release. Some answers on the liability release will require a release from a physician prior to in-water activities.
LOCATION
Pool sessions are held at the Saint Helens, OR Swim Center.
Open Water Dives are typically held along the Hood Canal, or Des Moines WA Area.
WHAT'S INCLUDED?
Students must purchase their own mask, fins, and snorkels for the open water weekend. These pieces of equipment are provided through the pool sessions, so students know what works and fits them, prior to purchasing equipment.
Students are also responsible for the costs for the open water weekend, including but not limited to: gas, food, and accommodation. Students must also get their two tanks filled Saturday night, for dives on Sunday. Tank fills are approximately $12.
