SCUBA Diving Open Water.

 

A complete program certifying divers by PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors). This 40 hour program is designed to safely give you knowledge, technique, and experience needed to become a safe diver.

 

Ability:

A person who can swim and support themselves comfortably in the water.

 

Swim Evaluation:

8 lengths of continuous swimming in a 25 meter pool. 10 minutes of surface support/treading water.

 

Age:

12 Years or older (instructor’s discretion)

 

Duration:

40 hours total -  8 hours of pool sessions; 10 yours of lecture modules

Open Water weekend (two days)

· Twice a week, 7:30 p.m.— 10:30 p.m.

Monday and Wednesday Evenings

 

Or

· Once a week

Sundays, 8:00 a.m.— 12:00 p.m.

 

Location:

Lectures at UWW; Pool at Tigard Swim Center. Open Water weekend, usually the Hood Canal area.

 

Cost:

$365 plus weekend expenses; gas, food, accommodations and two air fills (approx. $8.00). Prices may be subject to change without notice.

 

If you would like to do your classroom and pool work with us and your Open Water dives in another location the cost is $285 (this is called a referral).

 

Includes:

All equipment is supplied for the duration of the program; including personal SCUBA gear, all required student materials, manual, dive table, and certification materials.

 

How to sign up:

Reservations must be made in advance at Under Water Works. Class size is limited to 10 people. To secure your enrollment, a non-refundable deposit of $100 is required.

 

Refund Policy:

Refund only if unable to secure a Medical Release signed by your Doctor, (less cost of Student Crewpak).

Class transfer fee is $25. Make up fee is $30 per class plus $30 per pool session or combined class/pool session is $50.

 

PADI Course Description.

 

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver

 

The advanced program is designed to broaden your awareness of the environment and continue to develop your own diving skills.  The course stresses practical application and introduces opportunities for more specialized diving activities.

 

Pre-Requisites:

Be certified PADI open water diver or having the equivalent rating.

 

Evaluation:

An evaluation of the student’s basic diving skill is assessed upon enrollment and is necessary to ensure the candidate possess the necessary skills to dive safely.

 

Age:

12 Years or older (instructor’s discretion)

 

Duration:

· 2 Classroom sessions (approx. 4 hours)

Introduction to preparing and planning advanced open water weekend and it’s dives.

· Skill and knowledge reviews of more advanced diving activities.

1 Pool session (approx. 2 hours)

· Skill review and introduction to specialized diving skills.

5 open water dives on one weekend

Day One:

1. Natural Navigation and Compass Navigation

2. Elective Specialty Dive #1

3. Night Dive

Day Two:

1. Deep Dive

2. Elective Specialty Dive #2

 

Location:

Lectures at UWW; Pool at Tigard Swim Center. Advanced Open Water weekend (varies).

 

Cost:

$195 which includes the manual, certification materials, and for pool session a tank and weight belt. You must provide all weekend expenses; gas, food, accommodations, air fills, and complete SCUBA gear, including two tanks.  Also needed is an underwater writing slate, two cyalume sticks or locator light, and a night diving light.

PADI Course Description

PADI Rescue Diver


Why PADI Rescue Diver?

Rewarding and fun – that best describes the PADI Rescue Diver course. This course will expand your knowledge and experience level: Rescue Divers learn to look beyond themselves and consider the safety and well being of other divers. Although this course is serious, it is an enjoyable way to build your confidence.

What do I need to start?

· You can enroll in the Rescue Diver Course as a certified Open Water Diver (or have a qualifying certification from another training organization) and participate in the Rescue Diver knowledge development and rescue training sessions, in confined water only, while working on your Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

· To participate in the rescue training sessions in open water, and to participate in the open water rescue scenarios, you must be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or have a qualifying certification from another training organization.

· Minimum age: 15 years old (12 for PADI Junior Rescue Diver)

· Successful completion of a sanctioned CPR program within the past 24 months. The Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) courses meet these requirements.

 

What will I do?
Rescue Diver training will prepare you to prevent problems and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies. During the five open water sessions, you'll cover:

· Self-rescue and diver stress

· AED and emergency oxygen delivery systems

· dive first aid

· swimming and non-swimming rescue techniques

· emergency management and equipment

· panicked diver response

· underwater problems

· missing diver procedures

· surfacing the unconscious diver

· in-water rescue breathing protocols

· egress (exits)

· first aid procedures for pressure related accidents

dive accident scenarios

How long will it take?

· Recommended Course Hours: 25

· Minimum Open Water Training: five sessions over two days
