About Our Company

We at Under Water Works love Scuba diving, but more than that we love diving in the Pacific Northwest.  We're passionate about diving here, and about the amazing life that thrives in our colder water.  Our goal at the shop is to introduce you to a world that you've probably never seen before, and to encourage you in your diving skills and continued education so that you can explore as much of it as possible. 

Our History

Jerry Rood, a NAUI Instructor, and Hilde Rood, an Assistant Instructor with a background in business and accounting, started Under Water Works, Inc. in June 1975, teaching their first SCUBA class at Tigard High School.  Shortly thereafter, the retail store opened at its first location on S.W. Hall Blvd. in Tigard.

In January 1981, Jerry was killed in a car accident.  Hilde, with the support and encouragement of family and diving friends, continued the business.  By 1998, Under Water Works had outgrown its space on Hall Blvd. and moved the store to its present location on Main Street in Tigard.

Training

Our motto, "Professional Service with our Personal Touch," started in 1975 and still holds true today.  We're especially proud to be able to offer one of the best selections of the latest SCUBA equipment available to sport divers.  Our Instructors are certified by PADI, Professional Association of Diving Instructors, and we offer you an up to date, and highly developed program.  Through our instruction you will develop your skills and confidence level, and discover a love of the sport of SCUBA diving that will last a lifetime.
